Jaipur: State Government of Rajasthan had issued the order according to which state government will not hire people who consume tobacco/cigarette. It is mandatory for an applicant to be tobacco/cigarette-free to qualify for a position in the Commercial Taxes Department.
Rajasthan government has made stringent norms for the applicants and those involved in consumption of tobacco/cigarette will be disqualified from applying in order to fill up nearly 182 vacant positions in the department.
Reports claimed that the candidates will be required to sign an affidavit, abiding by the rules and regulations proposed by the government.
The applicants will be charged with Rs 750 for an entrance examination. The application forms need to be deposited by October 28. The provision of filling forms online has also been given to the aspirants, last day to which dates to October 29.
Principal Secretary of department of personnel, Sudarshan Sethi, said, “Gutka and smoking are very harmful and their consumption is not at all a fashion statement. People should stay away from it.”
The circular was issued on the same day when the model code of conduct for assembly elections came into effect in Rajasthan.
State nodal officer, tobacco control, Dr Sunil Singh, said, “It’s not only in India but probably first in the world that such a decision has been taken to discourage tobacco consumption.”
He said the first state-level meeting was held in November and the next meeting will discuss the penalty on a person who violates the undertaking.
