Chandigarh: Punjab Government of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had call back the Y-grade security of former Amritsar MP from BJP Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday. It had ordered to withdrawal of the personal security officers (PSOs) attached to him.
This comes barely six days after Sidhu lashed out at the ruling Badal clan for backstabbing BJP in Haryana by joining hands with INLD. The withdrawal evoked sharp criticism from senior BJP leaders in Delhi and Punjab.
While confirming the action, SAD pointed out that Sidhu did not merit any security as he was no longer an MP.
The party said pruning of VVIP security is a routine exercise and should not be seen as a revengeful move.
SAD spokesperson Daljit Cheema said, “Reviewing of security is an ongoing process. It was just a random decision taken by Punjab police. All those who are no longer MPs and MLAs have to forfeit their security.”
