New Delhi: Dhanteras is the first day of the Diwali festival in India that usually falls one or two days beforeLakshmi Puja – the main Diwali day. This festival is also known as Dhanatrayodashi or Chhoti Diwali. The word Dhanteras itself means wealth and prosperity. It falls in the month of Ashwin, and is celebrated on the 13th lunar day according to the Hindu calendar.
The day holds special significance for businessmen who purchase gold on the day. But generally everyone chooses Dhanteras to invest in gold bars or jewellery. New clothes and utensils for Diwali are also bought on this auspicious occasion.
Dhanteras is a day when one purchases gold and new clothes and in the evening, lamps are lit and everyone welcomes Goddess Lakshmi into their homes. Ahead of Lakshmi Pujan, females of the household draw rangoli. Devotional songs, aartis are sung and various types of tempting delicacies are prepared. Lord Kuber is also worshipped along with Goddess Lakshmi on the day of Dhanteras who is regarded as the treasurer of wealth.d
The secret of worshipping both is in the prospect of increasing the benefit of every prayer. Every individual purchases something or the other on the occasion of Dhanteras – it may include jewellery, gold, silver, clothes or utensils according to one’s budget.
The shubh muhurat for performing Lakshmi Puja and Ganesh Puja is from 7:04 PM to 8:15 PM. In all the whole duration will last for 1 hour 10 minutes. Pradosh Kaal will start from 5:41 PM to 8:15 PM and Vrishabha Kaal will immense from 7:04 PM to 9:00 PM. Morning 10.30 am to 12.00 Noon – Labh.
