J Jayalalithaa convictedBangalore: The bail plea of Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa will be hear by Karnataka High Court today. The court will hear the plea seeking the bail of Jayalalithaa and suspension of four-year sentence in a disproportionate assets case.

Jayalalithaa is presently at a prison in Bangalore after a Special Court sentenced her in the case on September 27.

Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani will argue for Amma.

In her petitions seeking immediate bail and challenging her sentence, Jayalalithaa has maintained that the charges of amassing wealth against her were false and that she had acquired property through legal means.

The bail plea will be taken up by the regular bench of the High Court after it was postponed by the vacation bench on October 01.

Special Judge John Michael D’Cunha had convicted Jayalalithaa, sentencing her to four years imprisonment, and slapped a staggering fine of Rs 100 crore in the corruption case in his verdict on September 27.

Police had tightened the security and imposed Section 144 of the CrPC within 1 KM radius of the High Court and Parapanna Agrahara Prison to brace up for the anticipated entry of AIADMK supporters and leaders into the city from Hosur border.
