New Delhi: The Delhi High Court had slammed the Shahi imam of #JamaMasjid on Friday and said that he has no legal sanctity to anoint his son as his deputy and successor.
Meanwhile it has also give relief to Imam and allowed him on Friday for anointment ceremony of Shahi Imam’s deputy to be held on Saturday.
The Delhi HC has sought a reply from the Centre, #WakfBoard and Imam Bukhari by January 28.
Three petitions challenging the move have been filed in court. The ‘#dastarbandi’ ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The Central government and the WakfBoard have called the move illegal.
Former MP Syed Shahabuddin on Thursday had questioned the legality of Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid anointing his son as his deputy and successor, contending that since Jama Masjid is a Wakf property, Shahi Imam Ahmed Bukhari cannot appoint his son as Naib Imam.
In a statement, former IFS officer, President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat said, “The Jama Masjid of Delhi is a national monument of historic importance. Under the law, it is a Wakf property and comes under the management of Delhi Wakf Board.”
