Eight women die and several critical after sterilisation surgery camp in ChhattisgarhRaipur: Eight women had been died in sterilization camp’s medical negligence which had been organized by Chhattisgarh government in Bilaspur on Tuesday.

Reports claim that twenty other women are in critical condition after undergoing sterilisation surgeries.

These women had surgeries on Saturday as part of a free “family planning” camp, and on Monday, they reportedly started complaining of pain and fever. By late evening, eight had died.

A three member-panel had been formed by state health department to inquire the incident.

The sterilisation camp was held in the home district of Health Minister Amar Agarwal on Saturday.

As a part of family planning programme, the camp was organized.

The women undergoing operation get Rs 1400 as per the programme and the worker who brings the gets Rs 200 for each woman.

“Reports of a drop in pulse, vomiting and other ailments started pouring in on Monday from the women who underwent surgery,” district commissioner Sonmani Borah said.

Borah said 64 women are being treated in various hospitals.

Over 80 women were reportedly operated upon in five hours, at the government-run Nemi Chand hospital in the Pendari area of Bilaspur, about 110 km from state capital Raipur.

Sonmani Borah, Bilsapur Collector had confirmed that CM Raman Singh has ordered a probe into the unfortunate incident.

He also informed that compensation had been announced by state government for the aggrieved families.

The government has announced Rs. 2 lakh for the families of the women who died and Rs. 50,000 for the others who are in hospital.
