Largest cattle fair of Asia at Sonepur begins November 5Patna: Sonepur Cattle Fair, the largest fair of Asia had begins from today November 5 in Sonepur of Bihar. Sonepur Cattle Fair also known as Malegaon Mela or Kshetra Mela and will end on December 4. It is largely known for elephant trading too.

It is the largest cattle fair of Asia and attracts visitors from all over the world till now. People will get to see the amalgam of tradition and new techniques at the fair this year.

Fashion shows will be organized during the event apart from cattle trading. The most attracting point at the fair will be the railway village, which is being built in 1.4 acre of land space.

East Central Railway put up a big stall of Railway village at the fair every year. Working of different departments of railways is shown in the stall with the help of posters, cartoons and other means.

The East Central Railways has decided to arrange three special trains from November 5 to November 7 in wake of the huge crowd which is expected on the opening days of the fair.

These trains will run between Hajipur-Muzaffarpur and Sonepur-Bachwara-Barauni. Some other trains will also halt at Hajipur-Sonepur junction during the fair for the convenience of the visitors.

CPO Arvind Kumar Rajak said, “Help desk and ticket counter will be available at Hajipur-Sonepur junction as well as at railway village in the fair to make the information available to the visitors.”
