Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives at Assi Ghat in Varanasi to offer prayers to river Ganga. After offering prayers to river Ganga, PM Modi will also take part in a clean-up drive as part of his ‘Clean India’ mission.
Modi was then seen with a spade cleaning the banks of river Ganga, following which he nominated 9 people including Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and cricketer Mohammed Kaif for the ‘Clean India ‘ campaign.
Modi also nominated Jagadguru Rambhadracharya of Chitrakoot Handicapped University, BJP MLA Manoj Tiwari, Manu Sharma, Padmashree Prof Devi Prasad Dwivedi, TV comedian Raju Srivastava, cricketer Suresh Raina and singer Kailash Kher.
Speaking to reporters here, Modi said: “I have started the cleanliness drive here, social organisations have assured me this entire ‘ghat’ will be cleaned as soon as possible. Modi said that after several years this should be a gift through the medium of cleanliness here.
Shortly after being nominated Suresh Raina tweeted: Honoured to be nominated by @PMOIndia for #SwachhtaAbhiyaan Will take up the endeavour as soon as I’m in UP after ODI series
He twitted: Cleanliness is a reflection of our Civilization. It has started as a dream but we should all make it our own mission. @PMOIndia
