New Delhi: Amidst uproar of Opposition over conversion, the #Anti-#Hijacking #Bill 2010 had been introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
The Anti-Hijacking (#Amendment) Bill, 2010 was introduced in Rajya Sabha on August 19, 2010 by then #Civil #Aviation #Minister #Praful #Patel. The Bill was referred to the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, which submitted its report on October 18, 2010.
The Bill amended the #Anti-Hijacking #Act, 1982, which dealt with hijacking of aircraft, and provided criminal penalties in this regard.
Hijacking of an aircraft shall be punishable with life imprisonment and fine, states the Act. The Bill enhanced the punishment to death penalty, or life imprisonment and fine.
According to the Act, a person who attempts or abets hijacking of an aircraft will be considered to be a hijacker, and punished accordingly.
The Bill clarified that a person will be considered to be hijacker whether he attempts or abets hijacking of an aircraft on his own or in cooperation with others.
