New Delhi: The global CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella had met with Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and urged him to allow the United States software major to pilot its ‘White-Fi’ technology which will provide internet connectivity in remote villages in the country at a meeting in the capital on Friday.
The Television White-Space technology or White-Fi of Microsoft works like Wi-Fi on a bigger scale to provide wireless connectivity across a 10 km radius at a speed of up to 16 mbps, by using chunks of airwaves lying between spectrums kept untouched by broadcasters to avoid interference or disturbance between transmissions.
Notify that Satya Nadella also met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday in the national capital. He is the third major tech executive to meet PM Modi, after Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg.
Nadella said the company is looking forward to partner with the Digital India and Make in India programmes of the government.
After meeting with Telecom Minister Prasad, Nadella said, “It’s always fantastic for me personally to be in India and the conversation I had with the minister was wide ranging.”
He also said, “I have an aspiration that in this mobile and cloud world, we can empower every individual citizen of India and every business organisation and institution in India to be able to try with new technology. So, I am looking forward to be a part of both the Digital India and Make in India.”
