Jammu: Pakistan troops targeted 12 Indian posts late Wednesday night along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir hours after one Indian jawan and four Pakistani soldiers were killed in the cross-border firing.
Pakistan yesterday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh in Islamabad to register protest after four of its rangers were killed in retaliatory firing by the Border Security Force (BSF).
However, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today denied the reports.
We have retaliated effectively … four Pakistani rangers have been killed along the International Border in Samba sector this evening,”Reuters quoted Inspector General for the Jammu Frontier Rakesh Sharma as saying.
The Pakistani rangers opened fire on the Indian border post on Wednesday morning killing one BSF soldier. In retaliation, Indian border forces killed four rangers and destroyed three Pakistani border posts in the heavy firing that lasted until 5:15pm.
The BSF soldiers stopped firing only after the matter was taken to Director General of Military Operations by Pakistan. The rangers then waved white flags to lift the bodies of their soldiers.
“As Pakistani rangers suffered casualties, they waved white flags, asking BSF to stop the firing so that they can lift the bodies of the dead men. We stopped the firing after their request,” Sharma said.
However, Pakistan once again resumed firing through the night on 12 border posts in Samba district injuring one civilian, according to TV reports.
