Kolkata: In yet another tragic incident following the demise of Australia n cricketer Phil Hughes, Ankit Keshri, a former Bengal Under-19 cricketer,met with an untimely death on Monday morning in Kolkata following a freakish accident on the cricket field last Friday. Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has said that his IPL franchise will go all out to support late Ankit Keshri’s family after the young Bengal player passed away post a freak on-field collision.
Keshri had a collision with his team-mate Sourabh Mondal while attempting a catch and was rushed to the hospital. He eventually died of a cardiac arrest. Keshri was 20. The incident occurred during a Cricket Association of Bengal’s Division 1 knockout match between East Bengal and Bhawanipore at Jadavpur University Campus ground in Kolkata.

Keshri, who was admitted to a hospital after sustaining a head injury during a match on 17 April, died on Monday.
In what can be considered a cruel twist of fate, Keshri was not a part of the playing XI and was the 12th man of the side in that fateful match. He came to replace Railways Ranji all-rounder Arnab Nandi, who had taken a break. The incident happened at the Salt Lake ground during a one-day match between local giants East Bengal and Bhowanipore club.
