New Delhi: Government is making every effort to arrest fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is believed to be hiding in Pakistan, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today. Rajanth Singh said, “We have repeatedly asked Pakistan to hand over Dawood Ibrahim. Let’s be patient; action will be taken soon.
We are trying to arrest him (Dawood). Wherever he is, we will arrest him. Any criminal evading justice should be brought to book. That was the effort of the previous government and it is the effort of our government too,” he said during a debate on issues concerning the Home Ministry
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the latest evidence has made India’s case stronger. “Evidence of Dawood residing in Pakistan was always there. We have repeatedly asked pakistan to hand over him. This latest evidence has made our case stronger.”
Indian intelligence agencies have been trying to trace and nab Dawood ever since he fled to Pakistan more than two decades ago after masterminding the 1993 Bombay blasts, the biggest terror strike in the country.
Earlier in the year, sources claimed that India came very close to eliminating Dawood in 2013. A team of Indian commandos had infiltrated into Pakistan to hunt Dawood and were all set to execute the highly secret operation before they were asked to not carry out the strike.
India’s most wanted terrorist, Dawood, is the mastermind of the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that claimed around 300 lives. India believes Dawood is living in Pakistan with the active support of that country’s intelligence agency, ISI, and continues to be involved in anti-India activities.
