Bhubaneswar: At least three jawans of the Border Security Force (BSF) were killed on Wednesday morning when Maoists ambushed their patrol party in Odisha. . Six others jawans were severely injured in the attack and were rushed to the Malkangiri district hospital.
As per reports, the incident took place near Sarjubandh in Chitrkonda. The incident occurred when BSF personnel accidentally stepped on a landmine planted by the Maoists.
Two troopers died on the spot and another was declared dead at the hospital,” district police chief Mitrabhanu Mahapatra told AFP.
According to reports, the jawans were returning to their base camp at Chitrakonda after conducting a combing operation. The injured were shifted to Malkangiri district headquarter hospital. reported that BSF director-general DK Pathak is rushing to the spot of the incident.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed and two were injured in an encounter with the outlawed CPI (Maoist) at Timapur in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh last week.
