The announcement was made at the BJP’s official website on Friday. There had been a huge row within Bengal’s BJP unit over removal of Sinha from the party’s top post. Sinha’s opponents were lobbying with the party’s national leadership demanding his removal before next year’s Assembly elections in Bengal.
Since the assembly polls in Bengal will take place within the next four months, BJP’s national leadership did not take the risk of allowing anti-Rahul sinha functionaries to continue their agitation over his removal. Now party’s Bengal unit will function under Ghosh’s leadership. #DilipGhosh is very close to the RSS which reportedly convinced the central leadership to accept him as the new party president.
BJP had got about 18 per cent of the total votes polled in Bengal during last year’s parliamentary elections. But the party could not retain it’s vote share in all the elections held in the state in the past one and a half years. The party could not win a single assembly by-elections which took place after last lok sabha polls. BJP also could not perform well in the civic polls held in October this year.
Several state and district leaders had been raising their voices against Sinha and alleged that party tickets were distributed in lieu of money. Dissident BJP leaders also threatened to hold hunger strike at the party headquarters on Murlidhar Sen Lane here demanding removal of #RahulSinha.
Sensing that trouble within the party over Sinha’s removal issue might take a bigger turn before next year’s assembly elections, the central leadership of the party ultimately removed Sinha from his position and has brought a new face in his place.Rahul Sinha and Dilip Ghosh had been in Delhi over the past few days.
