#NewDelhi : #Ayodhya | The Supreme Court will on Thursday hear a plea from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the Allahabad high court’s order to drop criminal conspiracy charges against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in the Babri Masjid demolition case.
There are two sets of cases in this regard – one concerning BJP veteran LK Advani and his supporters who were on the dais at Ayodhya’s Ram Katha Kunj when the Babri mosque was demolished on December 6, 1992, and the other against lakhs of kar sevaks (volunteers) who had gathered in and around the disputed structure on that day.The CBI had chargesheeted Advani and 20 others under Sections 153A (promoting enmity between classes), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 505 (false statements, rumours etc. circulated with the intent of causing mutiny or disturbing public peace) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
It had subsequently invoked charges under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, which was quashed by the special court. The decision was upheld by the Allahabad high court in 2010.
