#NewDelhi / #GandhiNagar :The Economic Times expose on alleged dubious land deals near Gir sanctuary involving business associates of Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel’s daughter Anar rocked the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, with the Congress walking into the Well of the House and demanding a SIT probe into the matter and Patel’s resignation, even as its party leaders underlined that the sale could not have taken place without the support of Narendra Modi who was the CM then.
As soon as the Rajya Sabha met for the day, Congress members trooped into the Well of the House. They raised slogans and displayed copies of ET.
After a 10-minute adjournment, when the House met again, Leader of Opposition GN Azad raised the issue of alleged land scam in Gujarat.
He maintained the land was allotted in an eco-sensitive zone in 2010 when Modi was the Gujarat CM. Anandiben was his revenue minister then.
The party has plans to rake up the issue in Parliament as a counter to the BJP offensive over the Ishrat Jahan issue.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as chief minister of Gujarat had sanctioned nepotism, conflict of interest and blatant plundering of public land to promote commercial and business interests of entities closely connected to Anar Patel, daughter of the then revenue minister and present chief minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel,” AICC spokesman Randeep Surjewala said.
