#Bengaluru #temperature heat is on: #IMD expects city to hit 38 degree Celsius this week#Bengaluru : #Karnataka state capital Bengaluru city’s  heat  At 37.8 degree Celsius, the city sizzled on Sunday by hitting one of the highest temperatures it has seen in over a decade. The all-time record for the hottest day ever was back in 1931, when the temperature hit 38.3 degree Celsius.

Officials at the Met Department (IMD) said the unbearable heat that Bengaluru witnessed on Sunday was due to clouding, which prevented radiation from escaping.

With the clouds receding on Monday, the maximum temperature dropped to 37 degree Celsius, while the minimum temperature stood at a pleasant 24.8 degree Celsius.

The last time Bengaluru saw such hot days was in 2010, when the temperature hit 37.6 degree Celsius, and in 2012 when it touched 37.5 degree Celsius.

No respite soon
However, there seems to be no respite in sight. IMD officials said the coming days could see temperatures oscillating between 36 and 38 degree Celsius (the latter is the forecast for Thursday).

The forecast until April 24 says there could be cloudy skies, coupled with the possibility of rain/thunderstorm/dust storm in the next few days.

The situation is no better in the rest of the State. The maximum temperatures were above normal in most places in interior Karnataka, especially in south-interior parts and a few places in north-interior area. The temperatures were also above normal in a few places in coastal Karnataka. Kalaburagi recorded the State’s highest maximum temperature of 43.9 degree Celsius on Monday.
