#NewDelhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s predecessor Manmohan Singh took on the BJP leader at an election rally on Wednesday, saying the Centre’s policy on Pakistan had failed and the PM could not live up to his promise of bringing “black money” back to the country.
After storming to power in 2014, Modi said he was committed to bring back funds illegally deposited in banks outside the country to avoid tax, widely referred to as “black money”. He said the money belonged to the poor of the country.
On Wednesday, Manmohan Singh also attacked Modi over his foreign trips. “Modiji’s foreign tours are being presented as great achievement’s, but everyone knows that these foreign tours have resulted in nothing,” he said.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had recently said good days had come for Modi but not the people as the PM was more interested in foreign trips than domestic governance.
“There is a saying: doing is more important than talking. But Modiji has forgotten this basic mantra of life,” Former PM Manmohan Singh said on Wednesday.
