#Chandigarh : It was high time to project Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Captain Amarinder Singh as the chief ministerial candidate of the Congress ahead of the assembly polls due next year, said senior party leader and former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal here on Friday. Bhattal, once Amarinder’s arch rival, said the move would help the party in gaining strength, as “he is an experienced leader and most successful chief minister of Punjab”.
“Amarinder is not only Punjab’s captain but also the captain of Congress leaders (‘oh sada vi captain hai’),” said Bhattal at a press conference here.
She also justified the expulsion of senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar, and said “whosoever indulges in indiscipline in the party must face the same fate”.
“It was unfortunate on the part of senior leaders that they were taking potshots at Amarinder when the party is heading for a very crucial battle against the Akalis in Punjab. Expulsion was the only weapon available with the party to stop their statements,” said Rajinder Kaur #Bhattal
