NEW DELHI: An FIR was registered against Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat on Saturday for allegedly raping a 32-year-old woman in the national capital on the pretext of getting her a job.
Police say that the woman from Assam had approached the Safdurjung police station in south Delhi on Saturday morning and registered a complaint. Cops have also recorded the woman’s statement under Section 164 of the CRPC.
Harak Singh Rawat was among the Congress leaders who had rebelled against Harish Rawat’s government in Uttarakhand. He was a minister in the Vijay Bahuguna government, which was struck down by the Supreme Court. He was suspended from Congress in May 2016.
This is not the first time Rawat has faced a complaint of this nature. He was earlier accused of molesting another woman in 2003, after which a case was registered against him.
