CHANDIGARH: A week after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal admitted to having held talks with former ace cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu on his possible induction, his wife and BJP MLA Navjot Kaur on Wednesday said the family was yet to take a final call on joining any political outfit.
“Sidhu is away in US for a motivational lecture with a corporate firm. His primary job is that. We are yet to take a final call on joining any party,” Kaur told TOI.
Sources in the AAP and those close to Sidhu have cited various reasons for the delay, ranging from the “only one ticket per family policy” and whether to declare Sidhu as the chief ministerial candidate or the star campaigner.
Kaur did not reply to questions on whether Sidhu, who had stunned political analysts in Punjab by resigning as BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP, would be floating a new political outfit or joining Congress in case talks failed with AAP.
“My husband will return soon. Whatever decision we have to take, it will be announced by him,” she said.In an interview on August 14, Kaur had said that Congress had approached them but Sidhu was firm on joining AAP. Congress’s Punjab chief Captain Amarinder had earlier stated, “He (Sidhu) is a wellknown personality and has an eminent role to play in politics. I have made an offer. I can tell you Sidhu has Congress in his DNA. I have known him since he was a little boy. His father Sardar Bhagwant Singh ji was district president in my hometown Patiala and then he became an advocate general during Darbara Singh’s government in Punjab. Besides, his mother was a three-time MLA from Patiala.”
