AHMEDABAD: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani‘s maiden outing on social media – Twitter Town Halla la Ask Obama – proved to be a damp squib on Friday . The CM did not respond to a single question in the stipulated time from 10 am to 12.30 pm.
Out of 800-odd questions, he answered five afterwards – two from his Vijay Rupani (@vijayrupanibjp) and three from his CM Gujarat (@CMOGuj) account. Rupani commented fixed pay , bootlegging, terrorism and corruption.
One of his tweets said, “Received thousands of tweets @twitter Townhall.Overwhelmed by your response. My office will follow up on the questions asked. Thank you all.” However, the twitterati responded angrily , trolling him with #GujaratCMMissing. A key officer involved in organizing the townhall said that, “The CM could not start responding on time because of some technical glitches due to co-ordination with twitter, media partner TV channel and chief minister’s office staff.Otherwise, CM was open to respond to any question.”
He said it was impossible to respond to all 35,000-plus tweets personally . The official said the CMO has requested Twitter to develop a tool in a day for the purpose that can tag the users with specific topic.
A city-based social media expert said not answering questions in an event with such high anticipation cost him negative reviews. “Not all might see the TV programme where he promised to answer the questions. Digital platform is for instant communication where the CM did not act swiftly,” he said.
