His remark comes amid a strife within the party between the Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav and a senior party leader and his uncle, Shivpal Yadav.

Mulayam, however, said that there was no rift in the party. “We never had any division in our family,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference in Lucknow, Mulayam also said that the issue of Uniform Civil Code should be left to religious leaders.
