NEW DELHI: At least three trains were cancelled and 81 others were running late due to dense fog in the national capital on Wednesday morning, railway officials have said.
“81 trains are running late by several hours while three were cancelled and 12 rescheduled due to dense fog,” the railway official said.
Railway officials confirmed that trains running late include the Himgiri Express (26 hours), Amarnath Express (20 hours), Purbia Express (18 hours), Kaifiyat Express (19 hours), Avadh-Assam Express, Punjab Mail, Kota-Patna Express, Nauchandi Express, Bihar Sampark Kranti Express, Gareeb Rath, Mau-Anand Vihar Express, Triveni Express and many more.
Due to continued fog and timetables going haywire, the railways cancelled four major trains — 14258 Kashi-Vishwanath Express between Varanasi and New Delhi, Himgiri Express, Marudhar Express between Jaipur and Lucknow and the 12232 Chandigarh Express.
According to airport authorities, the visibility was poor on Wednesday morning and several flights were delayed.
At least eight international flights were cancelled and three diverted this morning due to poor visibility. Five domestic flights were also delayed.
Vehicular traffic on most of the highways was slow, and occupancy on state run buses has come down to half its capacity.
According to a MeT Department official, the visibility was recorded at 100 meters at 5:30 AM and 8:30 AM respectively at Safdarjung. Visibility was recorded at zero at 5:30 AM at Palam, the official said.
The minimum temperature was 11.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while the humidity was recorded at 98 per cent at 8:30 AM.
The weather department has forecast clear sky for the day with the maximum temperature settling at 25 degrees.
Yesterday, the maximum was 24.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius.
