NEW DELHI: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, whose house and office were searched by Income Tax officials in connection with a tax evasion probe post-demonetisation, on Tuesday blasted Centre for the raids.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, P Rama Mohana Rao , who has alleged links with sand mining baron Babu Sekar Reddy, claimed he was put under house arrest. Rao also said that he was held at gunpoint by the CRPF personnel.
“I was under house arrest. CRPF personnel entered my house. They showed me the search warrant, however my name was not written on it. They’ve found nothing,” said Rao, calling the raid as an unconstitutional assault.
“At gunpoint CRPF entered my house. They entered my son’s house at gunpoint too. Why did they do? I may be a big hurdle for many,” said Rao.
P Rama Mohana Rao said he still holds the post of Tamil Nadu chief secretary.
“I was the chief secretary and I am the chief secretary of Tamil Nadu,” said Rao. Rao questioned the raids conducted by IT officials, asking, “Where is State Govt? What role or business does Government of India and CRPF have to enter Chief Secretary’s chamber? Did they get CM’s permission?”
P Rama Mohana Rao dared the AIADMK-led government in Tamil Nadu to send him transfer orders. Rao also said if former chief minister Jayalalithaa would have been alive, nobody would have touched him.
“They have no guts to serve me with the copy of transfer order,” said Rao. “If madam had been alive, would this happen to Tamil Nadu? What about people’s security? he asked. “I have fear my life is in danger,” he added.
Last week, the I-T department had launched searches on atleast 15 premises related to Vivek and others and had claimed to have seized Rs 30 lakh in new currency and five kg gold.
The Tamil Nadu government, on the very next day of raids on December 22, had replaced Rao from the top bureaucratic post and had appointed senior IAS officer and Additional Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan as the new Chief Secretary.
