New Delhi: In yet another barbaric attack, terrorists on Monday killed seven Amarnath Yatra pilgrims and injured 19 others, including policemen, when they struck at a bus carrying them in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantang district. While returning from Baltal to Mir Bazar after darshan, the bus was attacked in Batengoo around 8.20 PM.
The militants also carried out two attacks on security forces in the area. As per the police sources, the militants attacked a mini bus carrying pilgrims from Gujarat. The bus was not officially registered with the Amarnath Shrine Board for the pilgrimage and was without police escort. The attack took place hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have busted a Lashkar-e-Taiba module with the arrests of two persons, including Sandeep Kumar Sharma alias Adil, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, authorities blocked internet services in the Valley.

High-level meeting at Union Home Minister Rajanth Singh’s residence ends. NSA Ajit Doval leaves. IB director, NSA, RAW chief, home secretary-designate Rajiv Gauba, MHA officials attended the meet. A high-level central team led by Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir will visit Jammu and Kashmir to assess the security of the pilgrimage to the high altitude cave shrine located in the Himalayas.
Bollywood celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Shabana Azmi, Akshay Kumar and Anupam Kher have offered condolences to the victims of the Amarnath Yatra terror attack and demanded a strong action against the perpetrators.

A high alert has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh following the terror attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Kashmir, an official said today. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also chaired a high-level meeting around midnight where he took stock of the security situation and directed officials to spruce up intelligence network.

Lashing out at government over the attack, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said that this is a matter of serious security lapse on the part of Government and security forces. “If there were intelligence inputs on 25th June that Amarnath Yatra would be attacked, why no preventive measures were taken,”asked Surjewala while talking to news agency ANI.
In the wake of Amarnath terror attack, Delhi Police special cell issues advisory to put proper anti-terror arrangements in place at places of high footfall and for Kanwar Yatra.
Bodies of seven Amarnath pilgrims and those who were injured have been airlifted to New Delhi.
