New Delhi: NDA’s nominee Ram Nath Kovind won the Presidential election by defeating opposition’s candidate Meira Kumar. The presidential election on July 17 saw close to 100 percent polling. A total of 771 members of Parliament and 4,109 legislators were eligible to cast votes.
After securing a massive victory in the Presidential election, Kovind addresses the media says, “It’s is an emotional moment for me.”

The Prime Minister also congratulated Meira Kumar. He said, “I also congratulate @meira_kumar Ji for her campaign, which was in spirit of the democratic ethos & values we all are proud of.
Ram Nath Kovind garnered 65.65 percent of votes, which translates to 7,02,644 votes.
Meira Kumar managed to bag 34.35 percent votes, which amounts to 1,67,314 votes.

As Kovind establishes a massive lead over rival Meira Kumar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulates the NDA’s Presidential candidate.
“Congratulations to Ram Nath Kovind Ji, who will be our next President,” Banerjee tweets.
Votes of both the Houses and 11 states counted.
NDA candidate Kovind gets 1,389 votes with value of 479,585; while Kumar gets 576 votes with value of 20,4594 after counting in Parliament House and 11 states.
Meira Kumar puts on a brave face despite losing the first round to Kovind.
“I am not upset, why should I be upset? I am a fighter,” Kumar says.
First round of vote count in the Presidential election ends. While NDA’s candidate Ram Nath Kovind is leading with 60,683 votes, Meira Kumar has managed to bag 22,941 votes.
Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Bihar were covered in the first round.
Meira Kumar secured no vote from Andhra against Kovind’s 27,189 value of votes. In Arunachal Pradesh, Kovind secured 448 and Meira Kumar 24.
Kovind bagged 10,556 from Assam against Meira Kumar’s 4,060. In Bihar, it was a close fight with Kovind getting 22,490 and Meira Kumar 18,867.
