Hyderabad: The son of a Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader was caught on camera stabbing a toll plaza manager in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Monday night.
Manish Goud, the son of Hyderabad’s BN Reddy Nagar TRS corporator Laxmi Prasanna, and his five friends were in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident.
Manish and his friends beat the manager when they were asked to pay the toll fare. They all have been arrested on the charge of attempt to murder.
The incident took place at Kadthal toll plaza on Srisailam highway.
Manish Goud and his friends, all B.Tech graduates aged around 22, were coming towards Hyderabad in a four-wheeler after attending the birthday party of a friend last night.
They were allegedly inebriated at that time of the incident, police said.
After reaching near a toll plaza, Manish, who was driving the pickup vehicle, tried to pass through a barricaded route rather than from the main toll payment side at around 9.30 pm, police said.
One of the toll supervisors, M Mahesh, tried to stop them and asked them to pay the toll fee, Amangal police station’s circle inspector Ravindra Prasad said.
Apparently angered at being asked for the toll fee, Manish allegedly argued with Mahesh and refused to pay, saying he is the son of a TRS leader, the police officer told PTI over phone.
Subsequently, a heated argument broke out between them following which Manish and his five friends allegedly beat up Mahesh, he said, quoting the toll supervisor’s complaint.
Manish’s friend Arun Reddy took out a knife and allegedly attacked Mahesh with it, resulting in injuries on his hands, he said.
The six men then fled from the spot, the inspector said.
Some employees of the toll plaza recorded the incident on their mobile phones and a purported footage of the same was aired by local TV channels, showing a man chasing and attacking another person (presumably Mahesh), whose shirt was torn off, with the knife.
“Mahesh managed to call Kadthal police station and gave the description and registration number of the vehicle. A police team immediately swung into action and stopped the vehicle on the highway,” another police officer, who is investigating the case, said.
All the six occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and questioned, he said.
Based on Mahesh’s complaint, the police registered a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) against Goud and his five friends and formally arrested them late last night, the police officer said.
All of them will be produced before a court in Ranga Reddy district later today, he said.
Manish’s mother is a corporator in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, while his father Ram Mohan Goud is TRS party in-charge of LB Nagar in the city.
