Juvenile among 2 held for stabbing minor to deathNewDelhi: A 16-year-old boy was stabbed with a broken glass in front of his helpless mother in north Delhi’s Kabir Nagar on Thursday. Police said that an argument ensued between the teenager and two others who had pestered him for cash. The cops are trying to determine if the attackers, an adult named Dinesh Chegi and a juvenile, were drug addicts.

Police said that the alleged killer is a 17-year-old boy, but added that he was instigated to kill Shahrukh by Chegi. Both the attackers have been arrested. Shahrukh lived with his parents in Kabir Nagar under the jurisdiction of the Bharat Nagar police station.

Recreating the incident, the cops said Shahrukh was sitting near the railway line when the duo approached him and started demanding money from him. “The boys used to meet there every evening and often had fights,” said a police officer. On Thursday too, a brawl ensued after Shahrukh refused the pair any money and 20-year-old Chegi and his friend started thrashing the boy.

On seeing the fight among the youngsters, a passer by sprinted to Shahrukh’s home and informed his mother, Shakeela. She rushed to the spot to discover the juvenile raining blows on her son. The helpless mother could only scream for help, hoping someone would intervene.

At this point, the juvenile picked up a piece of broken glass lying nearby and repeatedly hit Shahrukh in his neck. Leaving the woman attending to her bleeding son, the two killers then fled from the spot.

“While the juvenile thrashed Shahrukh, his adult friend continuously egged him on and prevented anyone from approaching to save the boy,” said Milind Dumbere, DCP (North-west).

Shahrukh was rushed to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital, but he was dead by the time they reached the hospital. Based on Shakeela’s statement, the cops have registered a murder case against the boy’s attackers, whom they later pursued and arrested.
