Meerut: A woman and her son were shot dead in broad daylight, a day before court hearing of the father, who too was killed about 15 months ago.
The incident took place in Sorkha village of Meerut district on Wednesday afternoon.
Two unidentified assailants pumped eight bullets into 60-year-old Nichattar Kaur, who was sitting outside her house with another woman. The entire incident, which took place within a minute, was captured on CCTV.
Minutes before, her 26-year-old son, Balwinder, was shot inside the car while he driving home.
The assailants were initially riding a bike. After the killings, the two fled on foot, leaving behind their bike.
The mother-son duo were scheduled to appear as witness on Thursday in the ongoing alleged murder case of the husband, Narender Singh, who was killed in 2016, said family members.
Police said prima facie the uncle of the deceased was the main suspect as he had animosity with the family over a land dispute, reported.
The suspects had warned the woman and her son not to testify in the court, failing which they would be killed.
Additional Director General of Police Anand Kumar said one of the accused had been arrested.
Four policemen, including the Station House Officer of Partapur, had been suspended for “administrative lapses”.
