NewDelhi: The counting of votes for the bypolls to two Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh is underway today, with the Congress leading in both Mungaoli and Kolaras after the completion of the first round, as per official data.
While in Kolaras, Congress candidate, Mahendra Singh Yadav and in Mungaoli, party candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav is ahead of their rivals.

The counting of postal ballots was completed first, an Election Commission official said today.
The outcome of the two bypolls would be watched keenly as a possible pointer to people’s mood ahead of the Assembly elections in the BJP-ruled state, due later this year. The bypolls, held on February 24, were necessitated due to the death of Congress’s MLAs Mahendra Singh Kalukheda (Mungaoli) and Ram Singh Yadav (Kolaras).
A total of 13 candidates are in the fray in Mungaoli while 22 candidates are contesting in Kolaras.

In Mungaoli, Congress candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav is ahead by over 1381 votes.

The Congress has taken a massive lead on Kolaras Assembly seat and is ahead in Mungaoli constituency as well.
In Kolaras, the Congress is leading by 690 votes. In Mungaoli, the party is leading by 174 votes.
Congress candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav ahead by 31 votes in Mungaoli seat.
In the first round of counting in Kolaras, at least 41 voters opted for NOTA (None of the Above) option.
Congress leads in both Kolaras and Mungaoli constituencies. In Mungaoli, Cong candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav is leading with 21 votes.
In Kolaras, Congress candidate Mahendra Singh Yadav has an edge over BJP’s Devendra Jain; the party is leading ahead by 514 votes.
In second round of counting in Mungaoli’s Ashoknagar, BJP candidate Bai Sahab Yadav is ahead by 302 votes
In Kolaras’s Shivpuri, Congress ahead by 832 votes against BJP.
In the first round, Congress got 3,544 votes whereas BJP got 2,835 votes.
After the first round of counting in Mungaoli, BJP surges ahead by 105 votes.

The fate of 13 candidates in Mungaoli, including BJD’s Rita Sahu, BJP’s Ashok Panigrahi and Congress’ Pranaya Sahu, would be decided today.
In Kolaras bypoll, the contest is between the Congress candidate Mahendra Singh Yadav and BJP’s Devendra Jain. For Mungaoli Assembly seat, Congress candidate Brijendra Singh Yadav and BJP’s Baisahab Yadav are in the fray.
Overall, 13 candidates are in the fray in Mungaoli and 22 in Kolaras.
The bypolls were necessitated due to the death of Congress’ MLA Mahendra Singh Kalukheda in Mungaoli and its Kolaras MLA Ram Singh Yadav. Both the constituencies are in the Guna Lok Sabha constituency, represented by Jyotiraditya Scindia.
In Madhya Pradesh, the bypolls are being viewed as a prestige battle for Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia. The results are expected to set the tone of 2019 Lok Sabha Polls
