On the anniversary of the Parliament attack, MPs pay tribute to the security personnel who were killed.

New Delhi : Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha paid tribute on Monday to the security personnel who died protecting the Parliament complex against a terrorist attack on December 13, 2001. As a gesture of respect for the departed souls, members of both chambers of Parliament observed a brief moment of silence.
Terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) attacked and began fire on the Parliament complex on this day in 2001, killing nine people. The attack’s five terrorists were also slain.
Speaker Om Birla spoke about the security personnel and a staff member who were slain in the attack as soon as the Lok Sabha convened for the day, emphasising that the fight against terrorism will be increased. Members of the Lower House observed a brief moment of silence in honour of the security professionals who lost their lives in the attack. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu of the Rajya Sabha said the day marks the 20th anniversary of the heinous terror attack on Parliament House.

“Terrorists attempted to sabotage this August institution on this day in 2001. Our gallant security troops, who kept a steady eye on the situation and were unwavering in safeguarding this temple of democracy, even to the point of laying down their lives, thwarted their nefarious intents “he stated.
“We all also underline our firm resolve,” Vice President Naidu stated on the occasion, “to tackle terrorism with determination.” Members of the Rajya Sabha conducted a minute of silence in honour of the security men slain in the incident.
Jagdish Prasad Yadav and Matbar Singh Negi, both security assistants at the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Kamlesh Kumari, a CRPF constable, Nanak Chand and Rampal, assistant sub-inspectors of the Delhi Police, Om Prakash, Bijender Singh, and Ghanshyam, Delhi Police head constables, and Deshraj, a CPWD gardener, were among the nine people killed in the attack.
