UP Election 2022: BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s son Mayank joins SP, Akhilesh announces at Azamgarh rally

Azamgarh: Ahead of the seventh and final round of assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s son Mayank has joined the Samajwadi Party (SP).Addressing a public rally in UP’s Azamgarh, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav made the announcement of Mayank Joshi’s induction into his party and welcome him on stage.The speculations were rife of Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s son joining the SP for the past several days. Earlier on February 22, The SP Chief had tweeted a photograph with the BJP leader’s son and had said, “A courtesy meeting with Mayank Joshi.”Polling for six phases of the seven-phased Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections has already concluded. The voting for the seventh phase will be held on March 7.The counting of votes will take place on March 10, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI).

‘UP polls to save Constitution, democracy’Earlier on Friday, Akhilesh Yadav has said that Uttar Pradesh assembly polls are not just to elect the government of the state but also to save the Constitution and democracy of India.”The ongoing state polls are the biggest elections yet in the country,” Yadav said while addressing a rally in Mau for candidates of the SP and alliance partner Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP).In the last assembly polls in the state, the saffron party bagged 312 seats, while SP won 47 seats, Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) 19 and Congress could manage to win only seven seats. The rest of the seats were bagged by other candidates.
