New Delhi : In a shocking incident, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable allegedly shot dead four people including another RPF jawan on board a train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra. The constable fired from his automatic weapon, killing another RPF jawan and three passengers of the train. The Jaipur Express was on its way to Mumbai from Jaipur.
According to reports, the constable had an altercation with his colleague and when some people intervened, the accused opened fire killing four people. The incident took place around 5 am when people were sleeping. Passengers were woken up by the gunshot sound. The constable is said to be depressed for some time.
“An RPF constable opened fire inside a moving Jaipur Express Train after it crossed Palghar Station. He shot one RPF ASI and three other passengers and jumped out of the train near Dahisar Station. The accused constable has been detained along with his weapon,” said Western Railways in a statement.
The Railway Protection Force confirmed four casualties, including an Assistant Sub Inspector. RPF officials said that the incident took place in the B5 coach of the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express (Train number 12956). According to a statement by the RPF, “It was reported on train no 12956 at 5.23 on 31.7.23 that there had been a firing in B5 coach. It was confirmed that CT Chetan on escort duty, had fired on the escort in charge ASI Tika Ram. The train has arrived at BVI and, as per advance information, casualties of 3 civilians have also been reported, in addition to ASI. Sr DSC BCT is on the way to the site.”
The RPF said that DCP North GRP has been informed about the incident. An investigation has been launched into the matter.
