In the excise policy case registered by the CBI, the Supreme Court has postponed the hearing on Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. The court will hear the case on September 5. Kejriwal has filed two petitions, challenging the validity of the CBI’s arrest and seeking bail. The CBI has responded to one of these petitions. For the second petition, the CBI has requested more time to file a response. The court has given the CBI seven days to submit a response to the second petition.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22.
In February 2023, Sisodia was arrested by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of now-scrapped Delhi’s new excise policy.
Assembly polls in Delhi are expected to be held in early 2025. Congress could not win a single seat in the Delhi assembly polls held in 2020. While the AAP won 62 out of the 70 seats, the BJP secured eighth seats in the last assembly polls.
