'Ashtalakshmi': From Arunachal, PM Modi Slams Congress For Ignoring Northeast; Highlights NDA’s Special Outreach

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of decades of neglect toward Arunachal Pradesh and the wider northeast region. Addressing a gathering in Itanagar, He also highlighted the NDA government’s outlook, saying the BJP’s inspiration is not the number of votes but the commitment to development.

Modi described the eight northeastern states as ‘Ashtalakshmi’ and said, “We worship the eight northeastern states in the form of Ashtalakshmi.”

While hitting out at Congress, PM Modi said, “Because of Congress’ mindset, Arunachal and the entire Northeast have suffered greatly… The ones whom no one asked about, Modi worships.”

He alleged that the Congress saw little electoral value in Arunachal Pradesh because of its small population and just two Lok Sabha seats. “Parties like Congress thought there are so less people living in Arunachal Pradesh, there are just 2 Lok Sabha seats, so why focus on this state?… The entire northeast was lagging in development…” Modi remarked.

Highlighting the NDA government’s vision, the Prime Minister said development in the northeast had been delayed for decades but was now being prioritized. “Our inspiration is not the number of votes and seats, but the idea of nation first. Our only mantra is ‘nagrik devo bhavah’,” he added.

PM Modi contrasted the Congress era with the BJP-led government’s approach toward the northeast and said, “during the Congress government, a minister would hardly visit the northeast, and that would be once every 2-3 months. During our government, central ministers have visited the northeast more than 800 times… When our ministers visit, they strive to go to far-reaching districts and villages…”

Modi further said that he himself has visited the northeast over 70 times as Prime Minister, reflecting his personal commitment to the region.
