Goa Nightclub Fire: Luthra Brothers Detained In Thailand, Deportation To India Underway

The Luthra brothers, accused in the Goa nightclub fire that claimed 25 lives, are reportedly detained in Thailand and deportation proceedings to India, as per the Hindustan Times reprted.

As per the ANI reports, The Ministry of External Affairs has received a formal communication from the Goa government regarding accused Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra in connection with the Goa nightclub fire tragedy.

The MEA is now examining the request to revoke their passports under the provisions of the Passports Act, in accordance with existing rules.

On Wednesday, the Delhi court declined to grant immediate interim relief to Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra after they approached the Rohini Court seeking four weeks of anticipatory bail in connection with the  Goa nightclub fire. The court has asked the Goa Police to file a response to their plea.

The Goa Police investigation into the recent Arpora nightclub fire has revealed that the Luthra brothers booked flight tickets to Thailand at the very moment emergency teams were battling the blaze and rescuing those trapped inside.

Officials said the brothers made the booking on the MakeMyTrip (MMT) platform at 1:17 am on December 7, while both the Goa Police and Goa Fire Services were still engaged in firefighting operations.

“Even as the Goa Police and Goa Fire Services were battling to douse the fire and rescue the people trapped inside, the Luthra brothers were preparing to flee the country,” officials said, ANI reported.
Meanwhile, the arrested accused in the tragic Arpora nightclub fire case, Ajay Gupta, was brought to Goa on Thursday and is being taken to the Anjuna Police Station by the Goa Police team.

Gupta, one of the four owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub where a devastating blaze claimed 25 lives, including five tourists and 20 staff members, on December 6, was granted a 36-hour transit remand by Delhi’s Saket Court on December 10. He has been arrested in the Goa Club fire incident, which claimed the lives of 25 people. Another accused, Gaurav and Saurav Luthra, have absconded to Thailand.
