Tejpal granted regular bail in Sexual assault caseNew Delhi: The Supreme Court today granted regular bail to Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal in a sexual assault case filed by his colleague with a warning that it will be cancelled if he tries to tamper with evidence or induce witnesses.

The apex court bench of Justice HL Dattu and Justice SA Bobde, granting bail to Tejpal, gave liberty to the Goa government to approach the court in case of any attempt by Tejpal to infringe the witnesses.

The court has directed Tejpal to surrender his passport to the trial court if he has not done this. The Supreme Court earlier extended his interim bail in the case till 1 July. Tejpal was accused of sexually assaulting a woman colleague in a five hotel in November 7-8 last year during an event organised by Tehelka.

On 19 May, the apex court granted him three-week interim bail so that he could carry out the last rites and other rituals of his mother. On 3 June, the interim bail was extended till 27 June, as more rituals connected with his mother’s death were to be performed. Tejpal was charged on 18 February with rape, sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of his colleague.
