New Delhi: Governor of Nagaland Vakkom Purushottaman had resigned after he had transferred to Nagaland from Mizoram on Sunday. He had disappointed over his transfer and blamed that government had transferred him without consultation.
He said, “I did not like the way I was transferred. Governors cannot be transferred like clerks.”
He had sent his resignation as Nagaland Governor to the President Pranab Mukherjee. He said, “Governor’s post is a constitutional post and they should not be transferred like clerks or lower level officers. Which ever government does it whether UPA or NDA, it’s not right.”
Before Purushottaman, Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, West Bengal and Goa have stepped down. He is the sixth governor to resign after the NDA government took charge at the Centre.
Notify that Purushothaman is a veteran Congress leader and former Kerala minister. He said he would get actively involved with party politics but not in electoral politics.
Purushothaman was also given additional charge of the office of Governor of Tripura. He was sworn-in as the Mizoram Governor on 2 September 2011.
