NEWDELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to undertake the Bharat Nyay Yatra from January 14 to March 20 next year, covering a distance of 6200 kilometers from ”Manipur to Mumbai.” The journey will cover Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Gujarat, culminating in Maharashtra. This yatra aims to touch 85 districts across 14 states, spreading more than 6,000 kilometers. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge will flag off the march from Manipur on January 14.
Jairam Ramesh, spokesperson for the Congress party, announced the commencement of the Bharat Nyay Yatra starting on January 14. The yatra spans 14 states and covers a distance of 6200 kilometers, he said. While predominantly a bus journey, the yatra will be a see the Congress leaders holding a march on foot. The journey will kick off with a symbolic flag hoisting in Manipur. Ramesh emphasized that the yatra is dedicated to ”economic and social justice.”
General Secretary KC Venugopal also confirmed that the objective of the Yatra is ‘Sabke liye Nyay’ (Justice for everyone). “We want justice for women, youth, and common people. Now everything is going to rich people. We are stressing the Yatra Justice for poor people, youth farmers, and women,” he added.
The Congress General Secretary further said that this is a bus yatra but there will be a walking stretch as well. “This yatra is East-West, we have already done South-North yatra. Without Manipur how can we do a yatra? We have to try to heal the pain of the people of Manipur,” he added.
During the yatra, Rahul Gandhi is expected to interact with youth, women and marginalised people in this Yatra.
It may be noted that Rahul Gandhi’s last venture Bharat Jodo Yatra received huge public support but did not quite translate into a major electoral victory, with Congress only winning in Karnataka and Telangana since the pan-India walk.
The Yatra comes during a period when campaigning for the 2024 Lok Sabha election is also expected to pick up. Some of the states through which the Yatra is expected to traverse are currently ruled by parties that form part of the INDIA bloc and it is to be seen if these parties join the Congress Yatra.
