Selling old newspapers and other scraps is a common practice in every Indian household. While we know that, apart from a few hundred rupees, there’s not much to gain from selling scrap. But do you know how much the Central government gets from old scrap?
You will be surprised to know that in the last three years, the government has earned Rs 2,364 crore from selling scrap across various government offices.
Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, Jitendra Singh, stated that this revenue of Rs 2,364 crore was generated under the Special Campaign 4.0 since 2021.
According to a Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) release on November 7, the DPIIT carried out various activities under Special Campaign 4.0 to promote cleanliness and reduce pending work in the government. The campaign focused on improving the office environment to enhance the work experience for staff.
As per the statement, a total of 58,545 files were reviewed, with 15,816 discarded, freeing up 15,847 sqr. feet of space and generating Rs 16,39,452 in revenue.
