New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s chief of election campaign committee Narendra Modi had been attacked by Congress on Monday over his ‘secularism’ remark of a party rally in Pune on Sunday evening.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh hit back at Modi over his ‘burqa (veil) of secularism’ comment. Singh told media, “I want to know what is the definition of secularism according to Modi ji. One religion, one culture, one nation is the definition of secularism according to the RSS and Advani ji. Modi ji should clarify what is his definition of secularism.”
Singh also said that the conduct of games was lauded internationally. Singh said this by referring to allegations by Modi about the way Commonwealth Games.
Congress leader Manish Tewari also on Monday attacked the Gujarat CM and said, “This is the right time for Indians to stand up and reaffirm their commitment to basic ideas of secularism.”
He also added, “The wheels of communalism are extremely sectarian, and need to be crushed.”
“We need to go back to Congress’ basic vision of India which is pluralistic and inclusive. The cloak of secularism is all pervasive. It envelops Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Sikhs, people of all faiths,” he added.
As it is known, Modi on Sunday charged Congress with wearing the “burqa (veil) of secularism” and “hiding in a bunker” each time it is confronted with a crisis. Addressing a public meeting in Pune, Modi also attacked Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the issue of his party’s “failure” to eradicate poverty and alleged that it was raising the bogey of “threat to secularism” to throttle people’s aspirations.
