2 Dead, Several Feared Trapped As 3-Storey Building Collapses In Delhi's Chawri Bazaar

NewDelhi: A three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Old Delhi’s Chawri Bazaar area on Thursday morning, killing at least two people, while several others are feared trapped under the debris.

The incident was reported at around 9:50 am from Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazaar Metro station, according to preliminary information.

At least six fire units, including water tenders and rescue vehicles, have been rushed to the spot. Rescue operations are underway as teams search for people who may be trapped inside the collapsed structure.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj raised serious questions after the incident and criticised Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government. This was the third building collapse in just a few months.

“Another 3-storey building collapses at Chawri Bazaar/Chandni Chowk. Many feared trapped under debris.

Rekha Gupta’s government and MCD conducted multiple safety audits of all buildings in Delhi, yet buildings keep collapsing. Why?

Safety audits have been ordered repeatedly, but instead of real action, multiple departments collected bribes many times, which is why buildings collapse every month,” Bharadwaj wrote on X.

Further details about casualties and the cause of the collapse are awaited.
