Fake Instagram IDs, Threat Audios: IT Engineer Targeted Over 50 Bollywood Celebrities In Bishnoi Gang’s Name

Mumbai: Mumbai Crime Branch has made fresh revelations in the case involving threats sent to Bollywood celebrities in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The accused, identified as Vaibhav Mishra, allegedly used fake Instagram accounts to hide his identity and send threatening audio messages to actors.

Vaibhav, an IT engineer, was arrested from Bengaluru by a special team of the Mumbai Crime Branch. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted to sending threatening voice messages to more than 50 Bollywood celebrities through their official Instagram accounts.

Actors Tusshar Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana are among those who allegedly received threatening messages from him. Police are now trying to identify other celebrities who were targeted. The Crime Branch has not disclosed their names as the investigation is still underway.

Accused Used Fake Instagram IDs To Hide Identity

According to investigators, Vaibhav allegedly created fake and anonymous Instagram accounts to conceal his identity. He reportedly contacted celebrities through their direct messages and sent them threatening audio clips.

The accused also allegedly demanded money from actors while claiming to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Investigators said he stepped up his activities following the recent firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff.

The Crime Branch analysed his digital footprints, Instagram profiles and other technical evidence to trace his location to Bengaluru. A special team was subsequently sent to the city, where Vaibhav was arrested.

Accused Brought To Mumbai, To Be Produced In Court Today

According to investigators, Vaibhav could not be brought to Mumbai on Wednesday due to pending paperwork related to his transit remand. However, the Mumbai Crime Branch team has now brought him from Bengaluru. He will be produced before the Esplanade (Killa) Court on Friday.

The Crime Branch is likely to seek police custody for further interrogation. Investigators want to identify all the celebrities who received threats and establish whether others were involved in the alleged operation.

Police are also probing the larger conspiracy behind the threats and the accused’s alleged links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
