Srinagar: Six people were died and about two dozen others injured on Thursday in a clash between group of protestors and the security forces in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The clash come in front after some Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were alleged of profanation of a mosque and beating up of an Imam, a group of protesters stormed a BSF camp in Gool town of Ramban district, around 145km from here.
A senior police officer said, “Two dozen people have been injured in the clashes between the security forces and the protesters. Doctors at the hospital said that five of the injured had bullet injuries.”
The injured also include some BSF personnel, he added.
High tension gripped Gool, Ramban, Chanderkote and Batote towns in the district.
A violent rabble also tried to set a fire the district magistrate’s office in the district headquarters town of Ramban. Police were trying to bring the situation under control. Protesters blocked the strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway at some places.
Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde has ordered a probe into the firing incident in Ramban in J&K.
Shinde said any use of excessive force or irresponsible action will be dealt with strictly.
State home minister Sajad Kitchloo and top police officials have rushed to Ramban to take stock of the situation.
