Kolkata: A minor blast took place near a CRPF camp, which houses the camp office of National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Burdwan blast, here on Monday evening,
According to officials of Bidhanagar Police Commisionarte “intial investigation has shown that at around 7.30 in the evening, two crude bombs were thrown when a car was passing by the camp office area.
A team of the state’s detective agency has been rushed to the spot. A team of the state bomb experts also rushed to the spot to inpsect the kind of the materials used to trigger the blast.
According to officials of the Electronic Complex Police station, no causlties or injury took place.
Debasish Dhar, Aditional Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, said police are suspecting that the material used could be a firecracker.
West Bengal police and NIA together achieved two major break-through in the past three days by arresting top commanders of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladeh (JMB) including Sajid on Saturday and Amjad Sheikh today.
“We are sending the samples for chemical tests to the lab. We are suspecting it to be either cracker or crude bomb attached to a cracker. But it is not an IED or anything of that sort that is for sure,” Dhar told PTI.
Some are saying it took place between 6-7 pm, others say between 6.30- 7.30 pm. We are trying to find out how the bombs went off in front of the CRPF camp, did anybody throw it while travelling in a car or it was placed there sometime before needs to be looked into,” Dhar said.
