Mumbai: Another woman has come forward and claimed that she was gang raped by the five men accused of raping a photojournalist in Mumbai’s Shakti Mills. The woman has already identified three of the five accused who have been arrested. She alleged that the crime took place on 31 July at the same location where the photojournalist was gang raped.
The girl has identified 3 of the 5 accused arrested in the case. She said that after seeing the pictures of the accused she recognized them and came forward to file the complaint. She had earlier restrained from filing a complaint as in a similar manner to the Mumbai gangrape case where the photojournalist was gang raped, they took pictures of this survivor too and allegedly threatened to publicize them if she filed a complaint.
A 22-year old photojournalist who, along with her colleague, had gone to Shakti Mills in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi area for a story was gang raped by five men after they were accused of trespassing the area. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan assured that the case would be tried in a fast-track court and the government will press for the severest punishment. Singh had earlier sought to assure residents that while the crime was serious in nature, the city continues to remain safe for women.
During their interrogation, the five accused in the case – Salim Ansari, Vijay Jadhav, Chand Sheikh, Kasim Bangali and Siraj Rehman Khan – have reportedly admitted to the Mumbai Police that they had sexually assaulted at least four women in the last six months. The case was reported to Bhandup Police station and then transferred to NM Joshi Marg. Her case will also be transferred to the Crime Branch.
