Mumbai: A day after heavy downpour and flooding, life in Mumbai was back on track this morning with train services being restored on all the three suburban lines though more rains have been forecast for today. Ignoring drizzling, men and women streamed to suburban stations around the sprawling Metro to head for their offices and other places of work which remained shut on Friday.
According to media reports, several areas in Mumbai like Hindmata, Parel, Dadar, Bandra, Sion, Colaba, Lalbaugh, Matunga, Mahim, Kurla, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Malad, Ghatkopar, Bhandup etc have witnessed heavy rainfall since this morning, making it difficult for commuters here.
BEST buses plying but services hit in low lying and waterlogged areas. Juhu airport was shut down as it was flooded since morning. A NOTAM (notice to airmen) has been issued stating that it will remain closed till 1pm.
All train services, local as well as passenger, have been badly hit due to the rains. Local train services are reportedly running till Andheri as of now. Trains returning from Kalyan junction and beyond to CST have been cancelled.
Seasonal rains in Mumbai began after the southwest monsoon hit the western coast last week. Pune and western Maharashtra have also witnessed heavy rainfall in the past few days because of the revival of Monsoon.T
