Bangalore: After meeting Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) district leaders, former BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday announced that his party has unanimously decided not to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party, but to support National Democratic Alliance. “We have unanimously decided that we will not be merging with BJP or any party, but will support NDA,” said Yeddyurappa. “We would remain an individual entity and support the NDA. There is also no question of me joining the BJP,” he added. He also extended his full support to Narendra Modi, whom he described as “a great leader”.”The KJP will face the Parliamentary Elections in 2014 as part of the NDA. We will put in our best efforts to ensure that Narendra Modi wins the election.
“On Wednesday also, Yeddyurappa-led KJP had decided to be part of NDA and work to make Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the prime minister. Yeddyurappa had to resign from the post of Karnataka Chief Minister after he was indicted in a graft case by the Lokayukta. However, he showed his willingness to return to the BJP after Narendra Modi was made its prime ministerial candidate.The BJP lost power to the Congress in the May 05 Karnataka Assembly Elections and one of the factors that led to the defeat was Yeddyurappa quitting the party to fight the polls heading the KJP. The BJP won only 40 seats in the 225-member Assembly. The KJP fared worse, winning just six seats, but the BJP leaders acknowledged that its presence in the fray heavily damaged their party. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won 19 of the 28 seats with the Congress taking six and the Janata Dal-Secular six.
